Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum & Gift Shop

NEW EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY

The Montauk Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit. The new display features two historic documents. One document authorizes the federal government to purchase a tract of land from the Montauk Proprietors for the purpose of building a lighthouse at Montauk Point. It is signed by President George Washington. The companion document is the U. S. Congressional authorization to build the lighthouse. It bears the signature of Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson.
